On the evening of April 13, on the banks of the Lancang River in Xishuangbanna, Yunnan Province, China, compatriots of all ethnic groups and tourists from home and abroad put up sky lanterns to celebrate the New Year of the Dai calendar in 1386.
Under the night sky, the sky – flying lantern carrying good wishes slowly rising.
Sky Lantern is called ‘Gongfei ‘in Dai language. During the New Year Water Splashing Festival of the Dai nationality, making and releasing sky lanterns is the traditional custom of the Dai family, representing auspiciousness and blessings, so as to pray for good weather and good harvest in the coming year.
